National Road Mileage Markers

Hwaymarker-McCHill-sm.jpgNear base of McColloch Hill

Cast iron mileage markers used to appear every mile of the National Road from Cumberland to Wheeling. Now, apparently, only a handful remain and sometimes they have been relocated. Looking like a scaled down Washington Mounment, their white sides with crisp incised lettering are elegant, much nicer than the bright green highway signs that now blight our views.

Every marker in the Wheeling area will be added over time as they are all found and photographed.
