810 Main - Eckhart House
George W. Eckhart, Jr residence built in 1892 in the Queen Anne style. Eckhart was a wealthy banker and his house is very ornate. The house is highlighted by an oriel, arched roof over the porch, corbeled cornice and colored shingles. The building houses the Eckhart House, a major gift shop stop for tourists to historic Wheeling. Even if you don't want to buy anything visit it to see the completely original interior with wonderful staircase, lincrusta wainscoting, detailed fretwork and inlaid floors shown in the Library of Congress 1976 photos.
