12th & Bryan St (1206 Bryan) Doric columns mark this as an example of Classic Revival architecture.
A reader provides this information: The historic building is 1206 Byron st. The building was first built in 1837 originally by the Episcopal Church. The Church of God and Saints of Christ have been in the city of Wheeling since 1908 and will be celebrating their 100 year anniversary this year.
Old picture from [/References Milton, 1943] of building. Originally St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Sold about 1867 to First Baptist Church. When was the steeple removed? Note that the columns were originally fluted - have the flutes been plastered over?
An undated postcard (from Chuck Julian collection) showing a steeple-sheared First Baptist Church.
