Flood House

In Cairo, the nilometer is famous for making the heights of Nile floods over the last 1000 plus years. Wheeling has its own nilometer - or rather ohiometer in a building at the corner of Virginia and xx on Wheeling Island. Someone has painted a sign listing Ohio River floods at Wheeling since 1762. In addition to the listing the building corner is marked with the heights of the most extreme floods, with the March 19, 1936 being by far the highest, flooding at a height that would have inundated the first floor of the building if it had existed then (as it probably did). There are old newspapers in the windows describing prior floods.
