Every town of any size used to have streetcars. They were wiped out by collusions of car manufactorers, gas companies and sometimes corrupt city governments in the 1950s. Wheeling was no exception in having streetcars - I don't know about related corruption. Here is a view of Streetcar No. 54, Wheeling-Warwood Trolley Line from 1946. When did streetcars disappear from Wheeling?
According to [/References Intelligencer, 1999, p. 85] the last streetcar between Rayland and Wheeling was Feb 28, 1943.
