Market and 12th streets, NE corner (where Laconia Bld is today). Built in 1853 for $46,000, housed WV state legislature in 1875; burned 1875. Washington Hall was the meeting place for the first meeting that led to the re-organization of the Government of Virginia and ultimately the formation of the state of West Virginia.

Mark Twain lectured at the Hall on Jan 10, 1871. Here is a report of his talk.
